Parenting is the most unique job in the world. Parenting is also very personal as there is no right or wrong way to do it, if you apply a set of values and characteristics that work for all of your family members. Besides it being the best unpaid job in the world, parenting can sometimes also be exhausting and feel unrewarding.

Especially when your kids turn into opinionated teenagers, you might be up for some extra challenges. Remember, when times get a little rougher, that you are definitely not alone in this. If you happen to have a young Athlete at home, there are ways to tap into some extra resources that can help you manage the daily parenting grind. And some of them have been right in front of you, without maybe even realizing!

“Parenting is personal. There is no right nor wrong nor perfect way to do it…”

If your daughter or son plays Sports, learning from how their Coach sets boundaries, implements rules and demands respect, can be helpful. Implementing their sports-language and sports-tactics at home, might change parenting for the better. Curious how to do this? Keep reading…

  • No matter the level your child is competing in sports, and no matter how often she or he practices and plays games, the ‘having fun’ factor should always have top priority. Make sure to stay in check with your young athlete and pick up on their body language while they play or practice.
  • Creating a ‘winning’ spirit not only in sports but also in your family setting is a valuable skill that can have a positive effect on the way you parent. Teaching your teenagers or young athletes that there is more to life than winning or losing. Giving them the right tools to deal with losing is going to be valuable in the long run.
  • Related to the sport your daughter or son plays, there are great lessons to learn regarding the value of practicing a new skill set and creating great work ethics.
  • Team spirit and being a great teammate (also if your child is involved in an individual sport) are important and can be learned and strengthened at home. A lot of desired behavior can be modeled and copied. So as a parent, changing some patterns might have to change within you to begin with.
  • Knowing how challenging parenting can be, take the advantages of your daughter or son playing sports. The way the Sports Coach teaches certain methods and values can become an extension of how you manage your family.
